Artist's Comments

The girl in this drawing is taken from the painting "The Broken Pitcher" by the french artist William Adolphe Bouguereau, and the background is just a shot of the New York skyline. The original painting had the young girl sitting in the countryside, so I just thought it would be interesting to take an image of a girl from the 19th century and place her in a modern setting. I also thought it would be interesting to use a different surface for this one so I tried out cardboard, and the resulting texture was quite interesting.

Interesting. Very interesting. Now that's an odd surface to work with... but the effect is wonderful. It's a nice concept, but it was made beautiful with how well you manage the charcoal. Lovely work.
